2 Going 1 Way
A blog following the adventures of Sam and Georgi around the world. Join us on our adventure as we travel, eat, inspire.
As many of our followers are travelling couples like ourselves, we thought we’d pop in a useful blog for a cheap activity! Kota Kinabalu is the gateway to Sabah’s fantastic islands as well as Mt Kinabalu but at night, other than the amazing restaurants there’s not many things to do. (Read our foodie blog here.)
It took us a couple of trips to the different shopping malls before we found Growball Cinemax. Located in one of the older shopping malls, Growball seems to only be used by locals. This is fantastic for travellers on a budget as it makes it sooooo cheap. An adult ticket was RM6 (£1ish)! It’s crazy lol
With all the new releases to choose from, it is definitely worth a visit. If you fancy some snacks or a meal deal then crack on, the Super Saver meal deal includes a large popcorn and 2 large drinks for RM9 (under £2).
The cinema itself is very outdated and the screen we were in was massive. It was an old theatre with red velvet curtains draped down and a stage. The room held around 500 people and for the showing of “12 Strong” there were no more than 50 people.
Make sure you read the board as to which films are in English and with what subtitles. All the big films play in English with Malay and Chinese subtitles, you get used to them after 5 minutes. If you fancy a more modern cinema, we also went to the Golden Screen Cinemas which was a bit pricier at RM12.50 a ticket and RM15 for a similar meal deal.
Neither are going to break the bank! Enjoy.
