Airbnb Stay in Tokyo: A Review

Airbnb Stay in Tokyo: A Review

PinaytravelEra

Foodie and wanderluster from the Philippines.

Traveling to Tokyo is expensive. NOT. Well, kinda. But, there are ways to cut costs and one of them is to find cheap alternatives to hotels and such. I can’t stress enough how staying at hotels can blow up your expenses to the roof.

My previous posts will tell you that one of the secrets to saving when traveling is to cut cost on accommodation. I’ve learned from previous experience that while it feels fab to stay in hotels, it isn’t always a good idea, especially when you’re low on budget. Lately, I’ve just stayed at friends’ or relatives’ places when traveling. But this trip, I opted to try Airbnb. Because why not? Everyone’s talking about it, right?

We are a family of 7, plus my sister’s boyfriend, which makes us 8 – so it won’t be wise to book a hotel, ryokan, and even a hostel accommodation. Thankfully, we found airbnb homes that will fit all of us, in Tokyo and Osaka!

On this post, I’ll be reviewing briefly our Tokyo accommodation.

First, our host, R, was very prompt in replying, as expected of Nihonjins. She even replies past bedtime. Can you imagine?

Here’s the link to her ad on Airbnb:

Airbnb Shinjuku-ku

It took her a while to give us instructions on how to find the place but that’s nothing compared to the wonderful experience we had at her place. At first, I was hesitant to book this place because there wasn’t a single review. Plus, the place was quite cheap, given its location, which was too good to be true. But my experience and knowledge of Japanese people quickly extinguished my apprehensions. Also, R explained that the place has just been rented out and the previous people who stayed haven’t given their reviews yet.

The guide that was sent to us by R was precise, thus, we were able to locate the place easily. There are 2 Family Mart convenience stores just a stone’s throw away, a Matsuya, Mc Donald’s, Coco Curry House, a pharmacy, and a lot more restos as it is centrally located and is just less than a minute walk to the subway station. It’s a station away from Shinjuku, a 3-min train trip, and about 5-7mins to Shibuya.

The place was quite small – as expected of Japanese homes – but it fit all of us perfectly. I loved the beds as they were so comfy. The only downside is that it does not come with a free pocket wifi. You’d have to rent this out somewhere if you want to be connected to the internet all the time.

Below are some pics I personally took from R’s place.

Pardon the mess as we’ve already settled in when I took the pics.

We loved this place because of its location and we’re definitely booking this place if we ever go back. You can find R on airbnb and tell her I recommended her place to you. Who knows, she might give you a discount? *wink*

If you have questions, please let me know and I’ll reply as quickly as possible.
